In a press conference following the keynote, Benioff and Taylor spoke about Genie and other matters. While this is more for Slack Developers , a new SDK was introduced at Dreamforce with a link trigger feature to share workflows anywhere in Slack. Overall, Slack got a ton of new enhancements including Slack Canvas, GA launch of Slack Huddles, and a new re-engineered Slack platform . This is mostly in line with the messaging I had heard at the Slack Frontiers event in New York a few months ago. The other big beta product making huge waves at Dreamforce was the Code Builder tool – touted to be a fully-functional IDE for Salesforce development running on the browser.
I ended up visiting only those which took place within Moscone West, North and South space. Just because of the timing, couldn’t physically make it, there were sessions within 30 mins of walking. Although, you can see some of the sessions later on the internet, the most value of being there is the ability to ask questions right after the sessions. It also gives you an ability to make connections with people responsible for the development of certain parts of Salesforce. Admins know that leadership can come from any level of their company.

Benioff added that Salesforce doubled its headcount during the pandemic. This year’s Dreamforce is the first proper in-person customer and partner conference for the supplier since 2019. It was held on a mostly virtual basis in 2021, but with 1,000 or so attendees present in real life.
I’ve played around with the beta since its early days and while it’s not quite on par with the installed IDE experience, it’s surely getting there. Perhaps because artificial intelligence is hard to explain, Salesforce decided to productize it in the form of Einstein. It started off with how to become a Customer Trailblazer. Salesforce doesn’t think a CDP is what people really want. They don’t want another point solution to integrate with everything else. Salesforce thinks what customers want is a true real-time CRM, with data as part of the fabric of the platform. That’s why Salesforce says Genie makes everything better.
Dreamforce is all about making connections and having a lot of fun.
But don’t expect any Microsoft action at this year’s Dreamforce. The big surprise last year was Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella’s keynote, which was seen as another sign of the growing bromance between Salesforce and Microsoft, two companies with a history of animosity. Dreamforce is known for its star list of keynote speakers. But this year’s list somewhat fails to live up to expectations. Expect to hear a lot more about Einstein and how AI will transform not just Salesforce, but the entire enterprise-software space as well. Some people call it the Woodstock of the software industry.

“The Great Reunion” was the title of today’s keynote, but the subtitle – a new day for customer magic – is the big news of Dreamforce 2022, referring to the announcement of Salesforce Genie. While there is plenty of hyperbole about what Genie can and will do, the graphic below helps boil Genie down to its essence. Unlike previous years, there’s no high-profile tech CEO or investor speaking at the event.
